Chapter 33 - Piano Lesson (3)
“Your effort was there, but your technique is not quite there yet.” Su Ran frowned a little and shared her honest opinion.
Su Ran was a pretty casual person in general. As long she didn’t starve or freeze to death, she wasn’t picky about much of anything else. Except when it came to music.
That was part of the reason she didn’t want to tutor others in music. She worried that she couldn’t help herself and blurted out her feelings bluntly.
“You! You mean my performance wasn’t good enough?!” Hearing Su Ran’s critique, Song Yi’an looked at her in disbelief and said unconvinced.
“Ugh… How do I say this….” How could she say it without it coming out too bluntly?
“Oh, never mind. I won’t say anymore. I’ll just play it once. You can listen for yourself.” Su Ran didn’t know how to phrase her words, so she just sat down in front of the piano.
Touching the piano keys, she felt a pang of excitement.
Ayaya. She hasn’t touched such a nice piano since she had transmigrated over. And her second favorite series at that.
The feel on her finger tips. The sound that it made.
The notes began to play, and Su Ran put aside her earlier excitement and focused entirely into the piece of music.
It was still the same “Reminiscences de Don Juan”. It was also without any error. But the emotions that it gave was entirely different than when Song Yi’an was playing it.
Su Ran’s music seemed to allow Song Yi’an to see a crazy drama, lively and fierce, and the final hell at the very end.
Yet Su Ran did not play it all the way to the end. She stopped at a certain point.
“Well, it’s sort of like that…” She looked up at Song Yi’an. She was going to ask him if he got what she was trying to convey, but what she saw was a little boy with a speechless look.
“Instructor Su, I was too conceited,” said Song Yi’an with his head lowered after he remained silent for a little while.
Then, he lifted his head back up and looked at Su Ran full of admiration.
Andsnes was one of Song Yi’an’s favorite pianists, and he had performed this “Reminiscences de Don Juan” as well. Song Yi’an even brought his sister with him specifically to his concert.
However, he felt that the performance of his piano instructor, who looked very young, was even more earth-shattering than Andsnes’s performance.
“Instructor Su, my name is Song Yi’an. I thank you so much for letting me know how deficient I am. I look forward to learning from you. Me and my sister both.”
“Wait!” Su Ran’s face changed colors all of a sudden. She interrupted Song Yi’an and asked him, “What did you just say?”
“I said I look forward to learning…”
“No, before that.”
“Thank you….”
“Before that.”
“Oh, I said my name is Song Yi’an.”
