Chapter 4 - Transmigrated Into A Novel? (2)
Cheng Huan had zero experience taking care of a child, and it was her first time trying to bathe one. It was a bit hectic while she was doing it. Luckily, the child was very docile. He didn’t cry or fuss and did whatever she asked him to.
Jiang XingChen stood bare feet on the floor, and Cheng Huan squatted next to him with the shower head in one hand and handed the towel over to him with the other.
The weather has been hot and kids run around and sweat a lot every day. After a few days, he had collected a thick layer of dust on himself.
The kiddo was only 4 years old, and his skin was soft and tender. As much as Cheng Huan tried to control her strength, by the time she had scrubbed him down, there was a large patch of redness on him, making him look like a cooked shrimp.
Jiang XingChen looked down on himself curiously. As Cheng Huan had been nice to him, he became braver than he was before. He touched a particularly red spot on himself and said, “Mom?”
Cheng Huan paused for a bit before she realized he was referring to her. “Eh? What’s the matter?”
The kiddo pointed at his own stomach and said, “I’m red.”
“Yes, you are.” Cheng Huan as she lifted one of his arms and said casually, “You are almost cooked.”
“What’s ‘cooked’?”
The kiddo was just four years old, and as he had been mostly neglected, he was not very knowledgeable about anything. After Cheng Huan had finished scrubbing down that arm, she explained to him, “Only ‘cooked’ food can be eaten. We can’t eat raw food.”
She rubbed the little kid on his belly and said, “Otherwise you will get a stomachache.”
“Does that mean I can be eaten after I am cooked?” Jiang XingChen was a very curious child. “Mommy? Am I tasty?”
The front side of the child has already been scrubbed clean. His face was pinkish and his eyes large. His irises, dark like obsidian, spanned most of his eyes. His eyelashes were thick and long. His nose was small as was his mouth. He looked like a doll displayed in the window of some shop.
Cheng Huan screamed like an old aunty inside her mind, leaned into him, and bit him on his cheek before she commented, “Mmm, quite good.”
The kiddo was quite happy as well. As soon as Cheng Huan was backing away, he also leaned in and gave her a kiss on her cheek. The sensation of soft lips of a child against her cheek melted her heart immediately.
“Mommy is tasty too.”
“Yes, we are both tasty,” said Cheng Huan as she patted on him. “Turn around. I need to scrub your back.”
The little kid’s back was about as dirty as his front. Cheng Huan had to scrub almost every inch of him. When she was done, she’d touch him and moved on after she felt that it was clean enough.
Cheng Huan had been squatting the entire time, and her legs were starting to get sore. She stood up for a quick break, and when she squatted back down again, she saw a darker patch on his waist.
She thought it was dirt at first, but when she leaned in and took a closer look, she noticed that it was a birthmark. The birthmark was shaped like a butterfly, and it looked almost like it was a stamp.
Cheng Huan felt that she had seen this birthmark somewhere before but couldn’t really put her fingers on it. She felt perhaps she was influenced by the original owner’s memory and didn’t think much about it.
After she had scrubbed the kiddo clean, Cheng Huan dried him and carried him out of the bathroom wrapped in the bath towel.
The kid didn’t have much clean clothes and Cheng Huan didn’t want to put the dirty ones back on him so she just let him sit there buck naked.
