How to Stop the Villain from Going Crazy

Chapter 17 - She just thought he was shy (1)

Erik saw that she didn't move for a long time and suddenly reached out and grabbed her hair.

His movement wasn't too rough. Compared to the force he used when dragging the trainer and Richard around, his current force was as gentle as playing with a doll.

However, she couldn't tell if he would be like a wild animal that would tear off the doll's head without warning. His thoughts were unfathomable.

Bo Li stiffened and let him move her head as he wished.

He turned her head to face Richard.

Why? Was he warning her that if she made a mistake, then her outcome would be the same as Richard's? But she didn't know what Richard had done wrong.

She suddenly had a flash of inspiration like lightning illuminating the fog.

She got it. In the original work, although he fell in love with Christine, he originally didn't plan on letting her see him. He only appeared because she got engaged with a young, handsome viscount after gaining popularity from her performance.

He hated his appearance and never kept a mirror or anything reflective around. He even specially treated the blade of his dagger to make it blurry.

And yet, she had gotten close to a young, handsome magician after winning him over. Even if they didn't have a romantic relationship, he regarded this action as a serious insult and betrayal.

After figuring out the reason, Bo Li didn't relax. Cold sweat broke out on her back. She could feel her heart pounding in her temples.

If her guess was correct, how could she make amends? Would he still cooperate with her and take her away from here?

Bo Li was nervous to the point that it felt like her heart was going to burst out of her chest. She didn't even have the strength to swallow her saliva.

She thought it over and decided to follow her instincts.

Bo Li slowly stood up. She didn't dare to stand up too quickly. She was afraid that he really was like a wild beast and that moving too quickly would trigger his hunting instincts. She didn't want him to pounce on her or snap her neck.

Erik watched her. There was no change in his eyes behind the mask, and he didn't stop her movements.

Now was the time to act.

Bo Li took a deep breath, turned around, and hugged him hard.

She could smell hay and the strong smell of blood on him. That unpleasant combination reminded her of an agitated animal in a cage.

The last time she hugged him, he didn't smell so strongly of blood. She didn't want to think too deeply about the owner of that blood.

She closed her eyes and tried her best to suppress her fear. "My original plan was to get Richard Simon to steal the bag, and then we can follow him and snatch the bag from him. But you got it for me already… It won't affect much, but we have to leave tonight."

No response.

"It won't take long for the manager to find out the backpack is gone." She gradually calmed down as she spoke. "The first suspect will be the guards, but the guards saw Richard Simon enter the tent… After questioning the guards, the manager will definitely send people to search Richard Simon's tent."

Bo Li lowered her gaze and looked at the unconscious Richard.

"But now, he's in my tent. The manager will either think he fled with the backpack or he's hiding in the circus. The backpack is so heavy. If he wants to escape with it, then he'll need a horse. So the first thing the manager will do is send someone to check on the horses. Once he confirms there isn't a missing horse, he'll send people to search the circus."

By now, Bo Li was completely calm. Things had already come to this point. Only by remaining calm could she get out of this predicament.

"Before they start searching, we have to take the backpack and go!"

She didn't dare to ask Erik to carry the backpack. She was prepared to grit her teeth and flee with the backpack.

However, she was caught off guard by how weak this body was. Right after she picked up the backpack, she almost toppled over.

Erik reached out to support her and took the heavy backpack from her shoulders.

Bo Li sighed in relief.

Although he was the one who caused the current situation, he was willing to carry her backpack and leave with her, so what was there for her to complain about?

Bo Li showed him how to comfortably carry the backpack, and then she took out the first aid kit from the dirty clothes pile, lifted the tent curtain, ducked, and carefully walked out.

Erik followed behind her.

Bo Li felt unprecedented pressure. She didn't know when the manager would issue the order to search the circus.

She didn't have the energy or time to move Richard. Once the guards found him in her tent, the manager would know they took the backpack.

Erik's behavior was unfathomable and unpredictable.

Even if he believed her and was willing to leave with her, he might suddenly abandon her or kill her. She felt like she was walking in a swamp at night. She was only making progress with great difficulty and had no one to rely on.

She could only cheer herself up and convince herself to think positively. Her backpack had 1,500-gram canned beef hot pot with a shelf life of three years. She just needed to open the can and boil the contents.

During the past days, she had been mostly eating bread and potatoes. The only time she ate meat was during that party, and even then, it was animal liver without any aromatics to hide the smell.

Once they got to a safe place, she would reward herself with hot pot.

Thinking that she would soon be able to eat a flavorful salty and spicy hot pot, she felt full of strength and almost couldn't help drooling.

October nights were bitterly cold, and the night was made worse by the thick fog.

This should have been a good thing. The torches wouldn't be able to penetrate the damp fog, and it would be difficult for the circus people to track them down.

But, if she got separated from Erik, she wouldn't be able to find him.

Moreover, the fog was terribly humid. She felt her clothes getting heavier and sticking to her body. Her clothes felt drenched just walking through the fog.

Bo Li also remembered that the camp was set up near a swamp, and there were alligators in the swamp. Ah, and she couldn't forget that the circus guards were armed.

If she wasn't extremely mentally stable, she would have probably had a mental breakdown and run straight into a tree to commit suicide by now.

Having gotten to this point, Bo Li no longer worried if Erik would snap her neck. She hugged his arm and left almost no space between them as they walked.

Erik glanced at her. His gaze was enigmatic.
