Chapter 38 - Why did it seem… like she had forgotten something important? (1)

Yue Xia didn't notice that Yue Qing was looking at her from behind. She was focused on teaching Shuyao how to play the game.

That's right, she wasn't teaching Shuyao underhanded skills or methods. She was simply teaching her how to play a game.

Normally, people didn't need to be taught about this kind of entertainment activity, but Shuyao was an outlier.

She hadn't been able to resist Yue Xia. After entering the game and hearing that they would be competing, she felt extremely tense and terrified from beginning to end. Yue Xia even had to remind her. "You can breathe while you're playing games."

Jiang Shuyao trembled. "I-I almost forgot!"

In order to not let down her team, Yue Xia played on a new account. As soon as they entered the team, the person with the highest ranking presumptuously ordered, "Give me the support role."

Their characters were lovingly touching in the game. Before Yue Xia could say anything, Jiang Shuyao switched her role. Yue Xia was stunned. "I only taught you how to play the support role."

Jiang Shuyao: "But she said she wants to play…"

Yue Xia: "So what if she wants it?"

Jiang Shuyao: "Umm…"

At this level of play, Yue Xia could massacre the other team by herself. In the next match, before they could choose their characters, someone weirdly said: [Ah? It's two girls? Game over.]

Jiang Shuyao looked at Yue Xia in confusion. "What does he mean?"

"It means he's asking for a beating.] Yue Xia ignored the guy's comment. She started the game and said to Jiang Shuyao, "Let's go."

Jiang Shuyao treated playing this game as seriously as making her lesson plans. She slowly sat her character on top of Yue Xia's character, and then she watched as the impatient Yue Xia ran their characters around the battleground and killed the guy who had inexplicably mocked them.

After that guy's character was killed seven times, he yelled in humiliation: [Are you crazy? Skanks that can only leach, get out!]

Yue Xia calmly stood in front of his character's corpse and did the crying animation while calmly asking Shuyao, "What do you think we should do at this time?"

Jiang Shuyao angrily said, "We should leave the game and report him."

Yue Xia shook her head. "And what else?"

Jiang Shuyao: "Umm.."

"If you keep tolerating things, it'll lead to health problems."

Yue Xia's character danced on top of the other character's corpse, and she began typing away. She cursed out the s*xist noob while saying to Shuyao, "You have to scold them on the spot to feel good. There's no time to lose. You can't go back in time. If you let the chance pass you, you'll regret it forever."

Jiang Shuyao opened her mouth slightly as if the door to a new world had been opened for her. "So it's like that…"

[?] The system couldn't stand it anymore. [What weird things are you teaching her?!]

Yue Xia's lips curved upwards into not quite a genuine smile. She was rarely serious, but when she was focused on typing and arguing with others, her expression was surprisingly serious.

Jiang Shuyao had been inexplicably scolded and felt a bit wronged. Mulling over what Yue Xia said, she thought what she said made sense, so she mustered up her courage and wrote a comment.

【Princess Yaoyao】:Your mouth is so mean.

【Beyond the Summer】: ...

【Unimportant Teammate A】: ? An elementary school student?

Jiang Shuyao: "?"

"It's okay." Yue Xia's expression was complicated. "As long as you vent your anger."

Jiang Shuyao's face was red. "At least…"

There was a slight sound from behind them as if the door had been closed. Yue Xia looked back. She didn't see anyone in her peripheral vision and wasn't particularly concerned.

"We played all night. Are you hungry?" Yue Xia raised her hand and picked up a bag of snacks. "Eat if you're hungry."

It was only then that Jiang Shuyao's attention shifted away from the screen. She saw that night had already fallen outside the window. She paused in surprise.

Time had passed by so quickly.

"A little bit." Jiang Shuyao pursed her lips and said, "But, it's already so late. It wouldn't be good to trouble the cook…"

"It's okay." Yue Xia searched for her phone on her cluttered bed like she was searching for a needle in a haystack. She smiled and explained, "Except for a set time each day, our family will either cook for ourselves or order takeout. What do you want to eat?"

Jiang Shuyao was so easy to raise. Naturally, she was fine with eating anything.

The takeout soon arrived, and they went to the dining table. Under the warm yellow light, Yue Xia was halfway through eating when she saw that Jiang Shuyao was still slowly eating. She asked, "What's wrong?"

Jiang Shuyao sheepishly smiled. "I'm trying to remember the combo you taught me."

Yue Xia was stunned for a moment. She reached over and saw that Shuyao was still overheated from being overly nervous while playing earlier. And this was with the air condition on. She failed to hold back a chuckle.

Jiang Shuyao had a good temper and didn't react to her laughter. She just awkwardly said, "I'm afraid of being a drag on others."

"Don't worry about it. We're playing the game for fun." Yue Xia tilted her head and asked, "Are you happy today?"

Jiang Shuyao obediently answered. "Yeah."

Yue Xia: "Do you like playing games?"

"It's very novel… but I don't know if I'm happy because I'm playing the game with you or the game itself."

Jiang Shuyao paused in moving the chopsticks. She was a bit distressed. "Does this count as a hobby?"

She didn't know.

Two pairs of clear eyes looked at each other. After a moment, she saw Yue Xia blinking at her. "It's okay. Try it a few more times and you'll know."

Before going to bed, Jiang Shuyao looked out the window.

The mattress in the guest room was very soft. Her neck was gently lifted on the pillow. The blanket had a fresh fragrance. The stars dotted the sky. Her long hair was spread out and glowed softly under the night light.

She was peacefully wrapped up in the blanket. She felt like she was surrounded by fluffy clouds, soft and light. She sleepily wondered what Yue Xia meant by "try it".

The cicadas chirped a few times before the night sky was swallowed by silence again. She was in a place that was considered unfamiliar, and yet, she couldn't help but look forward to tomorrow.

Just before she fell into a deep slumber, she suddenly furrowed her brow.

Eh?

Why did it seem… like she had forgotten something important?

What happened to the soup?
