Chapter 251 - She looked at him as if he had a halo shining above his head (2)
"Trust me, she's already recovered. You don't have to restrict her diet," Lu Xingchi continued to say, "Look at the color of her lips. They're a healthy color. She jumps around all day. We've been with her for so long and seen her stuffing herself with food. Hasn't she been fine?"
He was so wonderful. Bei Nuan was so touched that she almost cried.
Since Lu Xingchi said so, Du Ruo compromised.
"You have to take responsibility if anything happens," Du Ruo warned.
Lu Xingchi calmly nodded and said, "I'll take responsibility."
Lu Xingchi glanced at the overjoyed Bei Nuan and said, "You're still not allowed to eat stuff like chicken feet with spicy pickled peppers. Eating too much of that stuff will make your stomach hurt."
Bei Nuan immediately nodded in agreement. Anyways, she could secretly eat those types of snacks behind his back.
Bei Nuan asked Jiang Fei, "Can I have deep-fried rice cakes? Also, can you make me a bowl of noodles?"
Bei Nuan had never been picky. She ate whatever Jiang Fei cooked and always lavishly praised his cooking. It was rare for her to request something specific. Jiang Fei readily agreed.
A while later, two large plates of deep-fried cakes were brought over. They were fried to a crispy golden color. Jiang Fei also cooked a pot of spicy eight treasure noodles.
Du Ruo thought it was odd and asked Bei Nuan, "Why do you suddenly want to eat noodles for breakfast?"
Bei Nuan replied, "I dreamed about eating noodles last night. I had a craving for them when I woke up."
Bei Nuan lied. Today was her birthday. Her dad would make her noodles for her birthday. Even though she was in a world with zombies, she got the opportunity to eat noodles in her home on her birthday. It was an unexpected blessing.
The spicy eight treasure noodles had a nice chewy texture with a rich soup base. These were hand-made noodles by Jiang Fei, and each noodle was smooth and chewy. Bei Nuan was perfectly satisfied.
The team was like a pack of starving wolves. The food disappeared too quickly. Jiang Fei deep fried another plate of rice cakes and served it. He suddenly remembered something. He wiped his hands and fetched a key from the bigger bedroom.
"Bei Nuan, I picked this up from the floor this morning. See if it's of any use."
It was a metal key with a small, plastic round tag hanging from it. The small round tag had a blue circular logo printed on the edge. The word "Box 21908" was written inside the unfolded tag.
The handwriting was comfortable and elegant. Bei Nuan could tell right away that it was her dad's handwriting.
However, she had never seen this key before. What was this key for?
Du Ruo came over, looked at the logo, and said, "I know. It's a bank logo."
Lu Xingchi tilted his head and studied the key. "Box 21908 at a bank. So a safe deposit box?"
Du Ruo happily said, "Bei Nuan, you're about to discover your family's hidden assets!"
"Don't joke around. How could I not know how much money my family has? An inventory was done when he died."
Bei Nuan took the key and studied it.
"If this key is real, it might be something important to my dad that he hid. But even if I have the key, I can't fly to the bank to check it out."
There was a bank near her home. She couldn't recall the bank's logo exactly, but she thought it probably looked similar to the one on the tag.
Regardless, Du Ruo spoke with certainty, which meant that the bank also existed in this world.
"Big Sister Nuan Nuan," Tang Tang hesitantly said, "Since you found your home here, why not look nearby for that bank? Who knows? You might be able to find the safe deposit box."
Du Ruo immediately agreed, "That makes sense."
Bei Nuan raised her head to look at Lu Xingchi.
Lu Xingchi had always been rational and calm. He smiled and actually agreed, "We can try."
They packed up their bags and prepared to go out to look for the bank.
Reluctant to leave, Bei Nuan walked around the apartment one more time before going out. She couldn't stay here forever.
Bei Nuan silently prayed that this apartment would still be here when they came back.
Outside, the sunshine was bright while the buildings and roads were drab. The team asked around. The pedestrians laughed when they heard the team was looking for a bank.
"At a time like this, why are you looking for a bank? How can there be any banks?"
Bei Nuan persevered and continued asking, "Did this town used to have a bank?"
"Used to? Probably."
A nearby person interjected, "If you head down the main road, there's a bank on the right side, but it has been closed for many years."
As if the team had obtained a treasure, they headed down the road and finally found the bank. The small bank's facade was shabby. The inside of the bank only had the walls left. The safe and everything else had been removed.
Most importantly, on the sign hanging above, the bank's logo was red. It didn't match the logo on the tag.
Bei Nuan gripped the key that her dad had left and felt disappointed.
A fleet of vehicles whizzed down the road and raised a cloud of dust behind them.
In the frontmost military jeep, a man opened the jeep's door, leaned out of the door like a minibus ticket seller for buses that went back and forth to the suburbs, and shouted, "Is there anyone that wants to leave town to look for supplies? The base is offering three days of meal tickets as payment!"
