Chapter 250 - She looked at him as if he had a halo shining above his head (1)
When Bei Nuan woke up in the morning, she was surrounded by familiar objects. Her room was bright from the sunlight that shone through the plaid curtains and fell on her pillow. Her pillow had a brown bear print and so did her blanket cover. On her bedside, there was the bear alarm clock she had used since childhood.
Bei Nuan glanced at the time on the clock. Startled, she asked, "Why didn't the alarm go off? Oh no, I'm going to be late!"
Just as she was about to get up, she suddenly felt lost. For a moment, she couldn't remember what day it was and where she had to go.
Someone suddenly leaned over, and she met eyes that were as bright as stars. She felt soft and warm pressure on her lips.
Bei Nuan came out of her daze. Kissing was too exciting for so early in the morning
"I don't want to take advantage of you while you're sleeping," Lu Xingchi whispered, "It was so hard waiting for you to wake up."
He kissed her again, patiently playing with her lips and tongue, and cuddled her.
Bei Nuan thought; just because she was awake, it didn't count as taking advantage?
While he was patiently kissing her, she suddenly felt his hand brush across her neck and pull down the collar on her T-shirt.
Startled, Bei Nuan pressed down on his hand to stop him.
He grabbed her hand and gently, but firmly put it down by her side. He didn't touch her T-shirt again. He lowered his head and kissed the spot where her scar would have begun through the fabric.
"Bei Nuan." His voice was as sweet-sounding as ever. "Don't be scared that I'll see it."
Bei Nuan knew that he was talking about the scar and quietly said back, "I already told you that I'm fully recovered. The scar is long gone too."
Lu Xingchi looked up and looked her in the eyes before lowering his head and kissing down as if he was tracing an invisible scar.
"Whether or not you have a scar, " he said, "You don't have to be scared of me seeing it. I don't care. It's not important."
The burning warmth of his lips passed through her clothing.
"I knew a man that got a scar tattoo to accompany his son, who had a scar after heart surgery. Bei Nuan, if you have a scar, I'm willing to get a scar tattoo." His tone was serious. He wasn't joking.
Bei Nuan heard him continue to softly say, "What's the big deal about a scar? Even if you change your face or skin one day, it's okay. I'll still be able to recognize you."
Her heart skipped a beat. His words were a bit strange. Did he discover something?
She quickly thought it over and mentally confirmed that all the photos in the apartment were gone. Still, they couldn't stay here for long.
He was too smart. There was no telling when he would figure something out. It would be tragic if he realized she was a fake.
Lu Xingchi raised his head and saw her nervous expression. He suddenly smiled and lowered his head again. His thin lips lingered over the center spot of where her scar had been.
"Your heart is beating so fast," he said.
Bei Nuan couldn't endure it any longer. Her face flushed. She pushed him away and sat up. She looked everywhere but at him and said, "It's so late. Let's go?"
Lu Xingchi didn't force her. He let go of her, stood up, and agreed with a smile, "Okay."
There was an upside down book on the bedside table. He must have been reading the book before she woke up.
Bei Nuan surreptitiously glanced at what he had been reading. It was unexpectedly a romance novel. She had hidden a row of romance novels behind miscellaneous books on the bottom bookshelf. He had actually rummaged through her books and found them.
When they came out of her room, the bedding had been rolled up in the living room. Everyone else had woken up too.
Du Ruo gave Lu Xingchi a side-eye. "You're too much. You didn't come back all night. Too brazen."
Bei Nuan understood. Lu Xingchi had sat in her room all night. He kept his promise of waiting all night for her dad. No wonder his normally clear eyes were a bit red. It must have been a tiring night for him.
Lu Xingchi explained, "This place is too weird. I was worried something might happen to her if she sleeps alone."
Tang Tang chimed in, "Big Brother Du, you're wronging Big Brother Lu. He was reading books all night. He came out late last night looking for candles. He said he was reading books and used up his candle."
Ah, so that's why she dreamed about eating bacon in the first half of the night and then eating cream cakes in the second half. It was because he had replaced the original candle. So had he been bored last night during his vigil and studied romance novels all night long like they were textbooks for his major?
Jiang Fei had already made breakfast. Just like last night's dinner, it was an extremely light meal. There was only congee and small side dishes.
"I wanted to make deep-fried rice cakes, but Dr. Du said I can't make any fried food for you," Jiang Fei reported to Bei Nuan.
Bei Nuan was too sad to cry. If she had known this would happen, she would have made up having a different kind of surgery. It would be great if she had said she had broken a bone. Jiang Fei might even have made bone soup for her today.
Lu Xingchi glanced over and saw Bei Nuan's pained expression. He pursed his lips and his smile.
"Du Ruo, don't worry, she can eat anything," Lu Xingchi said.
Bei Nuan raised her head and looked at Lu Xingchi in surprise. She looked at him as if he had a halo shining above his head.
