Chapter 102 - “When did you first fall for her?” (4)
He took her over to his study. Standing in front of a safe, he said to her, “AnAn, remember the password to this. It is….”
Nie AnAn acknowledged, “Okay, Big Brother. I have it memorized now.”
Realizing that he was going to share with her everything that was under his name, her lips curved upward. “Big Brother, I really don’t care much about these.”
Huo YanXiao ignored what she had said. His hands on her shoulder, he carried on, “Inside the safe are all of my investments over the years and also documents for my security deposit box at the bank.”
Having said that, he pointed at his bookshelf. “Over there are some insurance documents with you as the beneficiary.”
Nie AnAn became progressively more worried. She couldn't help but tugged at Huo YanXiao’s sleeve and said to him, “Big Brother, what are you planning on doing?”
“AnAn, I should apologize to you,” said Huo YanXiao as he looked into her clear eyes. “On the Qin’s side, there is no way that Mrs. Qin and Qin ZiMing would just watch me take over half of the Qin’s Corporation without making a move. If anything happens to me, I will have nothing to worry about knowing that I have already handed everything over to you.”
Now Nie AnAn was truly scared. Now she was more certain than ever that Qin ZiMing and Mrs. Qin were the reasons Huo YanXiao contracted the virus!
“Big Brother, I just want you to be safe.” She stopped worrying about everything else and just blurted out to him, “I… I heard that the Qin’s has some sort of viruses that they can infect people with. You need to watch out for that.”
Huo YanXiao was surprised that Nie AnAn knew about that as well, but thinking that her soul came from he didn’t know where, everything was possible.
He nodded and said, “Yes, I will be careful. But I should still let you know ahead of time that they are likely going to make their move recently as my father plans on revising his will next month. That is why I need you to say over at the Nie’s as much as possible during this time and try not to go anywhere if you don't need to.”
Looking at the man’s seriousness, Nie AnAn’s eyes reddened. “Big Brother, what about you then? You said you are going on a business trip, are you trying to use yourself as bait?”
Huo YanXiao didn’t try to lie to her but nodded in admission. “Yes, AnAn. They will make a move one way or another. If I don’t go, I worry that you will become collateral damage. But don’t worry, I have my plans as well and I will be fine.”
He said to her earnestly, “I am telling you this now so you will be prepared. During my trip, don’t believe in anything you said over the phone unless you hear it from me personally.”
“Okay,” replied Nie AnAn. But understanding that rationally was not the same as accepting it emotionally.
When she was reading the novel, she was very sad when Huo YanXiao died. But it was, after all, just a novel. She was only sad for a short time then moved onto waiting for the extras from the author.
But right now, this man was standing right in front of her, with his warm hands on her shoulders no less. He was a live person; one that was her husband. Thinking that something bad might happen to him frightened her.
“Big Brother, how about we just take off together?” said Nie AnAn as she looked up at him. “We can go to a different country. Somewhere that the Qin’s can’t find you…”
“AnAn, there are loose ends that we need to tie up in life. We can’t live out the rest of our lives worrying that someone was plotting against our lives.” Huo YanXiao reached out his hand and wiped away her tears as he said to her, “Don’t cry. I will be fine.”
But, the more tears he wiped away, the more they came. He could feel the moisture and the sponginess of her cheeks under his fingers; she felt like a freshly peeled egg.
Huo YanXiao’s look deepened without him being aware of it.
His Adam’s apple rolled up and down. Looking at the girl in front of him, he said, “AnAn, now that I have told you everything, do you regret marrying me today?”
Through her teary eyes, Nie AnAn shook her head at him and said, “No, I do not.”
And the next second, his lips landed on hers.
