Chapter 1.3 - Waking Up (3)
“Nuonuo, why aren’t you talking? Do you feel unwell?” Mrs. Chen looked at her and asked cautiously.
Su Nuo recollected herself and shook her head, “Mom, can you please bring over a mirror for me?” Her body was still feeble, and her voice was soft and low. Her tone has the unique softness and tenderness that belonged to a girl.
“Sure, sure. Let me go get it now.” Mrs. Chen dared not asked why she wanted it. She merely agreed and handed over her make up mirror from her purse.
The girl has pale and delicate skin, and her long and wavy hair that was dyed a maroon color framed her small oval face. Her thick makeup that was smudged a little over the night contrasted starkly with the limpid, Bambi-like eyes.
Su Nuo rubbed her face and fell into memories again.
She was attending junior high school when Meng Yirun moved across the street from them. Back then, Su Nuo had never noticed that the little girl who was always covered in dirt with her head lowered. She’d greet her when she ran into her occasionally, but her friendliness was never reciprocated. In fact, Meng Yirun would give Su Nuo an occasionally sinister stare. She never imagined that one day she would change entirely. Not only did she become much prettier, but her grades had gone from the last in the class to the first. It wasn’t just Su Nuo, even Chen Wang started to notice her.
After they started attending senior high school, Meng Yirun and Chen Wang had gotten even closer. In order to make Chen Wang happy, Su Nuo started mimicking the Meng Yirun dressed; she even gone as fair as dying her hair the same maroon color as Meng Yirun. But just like Chen Wang had said, no matter what she did and how much she did, he would never be interested in her.
Thinking about that, the smile on Su Nuo turned bitter.
She had been so silly. Wanting to give up her life and herself for a man who was not worth it.
“Nuonuo?” Mrs. Chen looked worried.
Su Nuo put down the mirror and a weak smile appeared on her young and attractive face. “I am fine. I am sorry I caused you and dad so much grief.”
Hearing that, the tears of Mrs. Chen, who had just stopped crying, started streaming down her cheeks again. Even the eyes of the quiet Mr. Chen had reddened.
Mr. Chen walked up, patted her on her head and said, “Don’t worry, Nuonuo. No matter what others say, your mom and I will always be on your said. If Chen Wang dares to dump you, then I will….”
Before Mr. Chen could finish her sentence, Su Nuo interrupted him, “I don’t want to marry Chen Wang anymore.”
The two of them paused and both looked at her.
Su Nuo looked nice and calm, “Some things in life cannot be forced. Chen Wang-ge… Chen Wang and I, will never be happy as a couple.”
The Chen couple exchanged a look. There was a struggle in Mrs. Chen’s eyes, “But… but you two have already ...had a relationship.”
Su Nuo was even more determined now, “I have made up my mind. Mom, Dad, say no more. Please also pass the message to Chen Wang so he can stop worrying about it.”
Having said that, Su Nuo closed her eyes again.
Seeing that she had fallen asleep. The two didn’t want to disturb her and left the patient room.
