Chapter 22 - A Visitor In The Middle Of The Night (3)
After he was turned down a few times, as entitled as her cousin was, he called up his mother and grumbled to her.
This was why Big Aunt thought she’d ask Ye Qing for a referral.
When you have connections, the interview was much slacker, and it was much easier to get picked up!
After Ye Qing had finished looking it over, she genuinely praised her little cousin to her Big Aunt before forwarding them over to her old manager in a raving email as her Big Aunt looked on proudly.
Her manager at her old company had been very disgruntled about her quitting.
Before she departed the company, she needed a series of signatures from multiple individuals in the middle management. Many of them from the upper management dragged on for a while before they signed her papers, and there were a lot of subtexts such as “We have spent so much time in training you and you want to quit now? That is so ungrateful!” or “We have been so nice to you and you are leaving? What a white-eyed wolf!”
She didn’t just get that from the upper management. She had also received quite a bit of that from the colleagues from her department as well.
One of her colleagues, who had always been pawning her own work to the original owner, made a point of grumbling at her when she was packing up her personal items on her last day. “Ye Qing, you are leaving just like that? Don’t you think that is being a little bit irresponsible? Do you know how much more workload will be placed on us once you are gone? I never pegged you as such a selfish person!”
Ye Qing still clearly remembered every word as one just didn’t hear about these peculiar reasonings every day.
She thought about it some more later on. When the original owner was at the company, anything that others didn’t want to do was taken care of by original owner. The original owner would also be asked to fix others’ mistakes by the management in the interest of time.
After all, if they were sent back to the others, it would certainly entail multiple iterations before an acceptable product was produced. Unlike the original owner, who was able to get everything right the first time.
All in all, owing to the original owner’s competency and being a pushover, she was always the first one that everybody would turn to.
And now, the original owner wasn’t there anymore.
From that point forward, all the difficult and sh*tty tasks would go to those who were left behind. When the colleagues wanted to go home and didn’t have time to finish their work, they could no longer pawn them off to the original owner.
And that’s how their workload was increased.
What a legitimate thing to gripe about?
As a good colleague, how could she abandon her pitiful former colleagues?
Of course not!
Which was why Ye Qing decided to refer her little cousin over there as a thoughtful gesture. She emailed her old manager and wrote:
“My little cousin is every bit as competent as me and as reliable and hardworking as me.
Manager, you must take that into consideration.”
The manager did, indeed, gave Ye Qing’s recommendation serious consideration and reached out to Ye Qing’s cousin almost shortly after he had received her email.
Ye Qing’s competency was priceless.
Having been working with Ye Qing for years, the manager could just pass on her recommendation without even looking at the sample work that Ye Qing had submitted with her email.
He certainly had a lot of faith in Ye Qing’s recommendation.
He was, after all, Ye Qing’s family. Meaning, most likely he’d be the same type of worker as Ye Qing.
Competent, easy going, keep to himself, reliable, always eager to help, and, of course, excellent team spirit!
All that, on top of the little cousin’s ability to lie through his teeth, the manager was further convinced that he was right in his assessment. The cousin only had to have an interview as a formality, and he was hired on the spot.
