Chapter 15 - The Clingy Little Creature (4)

People in small towns tend to wake up early and everybody already had breakfast by now.

It’s still a few more hours before it’s time to start preparing for lunch, so all the housewives gathered in front of someone’s house to chitchat.

Seeing that, Ye Qing walked over.

All those chitchat stopped when they saw Ye Qing. They looked at her with alarm in their eyes and somewhat tried to stay away from her.

They heard that this girl, who came back from the city, has AIDS!

Even though they have all heard that it wasn’t easy to contract AIDS, usually only through direct blood to blood contact, they were still worried. They would like to stay as far away from her as possible!

Ye Qing understood their mentality and kept a very considerate few-step distance from them. With an extremely friendly smile, Ye Qing said in a soft voice, “Good morning, everybody. I just want to ask and see if anyone knows if someone had lost a cat? A cat came into my house yesterday. If you know who it belonged to, I will bring it back to them.”

Ye Qing had a clean and gentle look and also exude the same aura.

She exuded the feeling that she was a good woman.

Plus, everybody knew about her background. She was a poor child who lost her parents at a young age.

In their mind, only those with a loose lifestyle would contract AIDS!

But Ye Qing didn’t look like that type. So, everybody started to fill out the details in their head, maybe she contracted it from a bad boyfriend!

Coming to that conclusion, everybody started to have compassion toward her. They still didn’t dare to walk up to her but just answered her question from afar.

“Little Ye Sister, you didn’t know this because you just came here. There are a lot of stray in this area; they don’t belong to anyone. When these strays are hungry, they would go inside people’s houses to beg for food. Whenever they came, we’d feed them. These strays are usually quite reasonable, they know to leave after they were fed. When you run into one that wouldn’t leave, just sweep them out with a broom and they’d know not to come again.”

“Exactly. This is a small town and not the city. I’ve heard from my daughter that those living in the city keep them as pets and spoil them. We don’t do that here. We just feed them whenever we have leftovers.”

Ye Qing nodded slightly but then she had a look of discomfort, “But it’s so mean to sweep them out with a broom. Those poor strays… Aye, if only I wasn’t sick, it wouldn’t be a big deal to keep one as a pet. But with what is going on, I don’t think it’s a good idea for me to keep one… sigh….”

“Okay, if you don’t want to do that. You can take it to a cat rescue place.”

“That’s right. There have been much more strays in the last couple of years, so these rescue stations were established. We couldn’t be bothered with that, but if that’s what you want, you can always do that.”

Ye Qing let out a very emotional sigh and said, “…. I guess that’s what I will have to do. Thank you for letting me know. Thank you so much.”

She thanked them profusely and as all the neighboring women gave her the “what a genuine, kind, and polite good kid” and “if only she wasn’t sick, I’d love for her to marry my son” look, she headed to the store at the end of the block and bought a cage before she headed home.
