Chapter 39 - Must Be Difficult Without A Husband (3)
As Cheng Huan didn’t open up her booth yesterday, Zheng Zhi’s business was much better than usual. He was quite happy and felt that perhaps he was right that she had gone out of business.
True, her food just tasted different than the rest of theirs. Perhaps, she put poppy shells in her food and was being investigated.
He wished ill wills upon them and wished that she would remain close forever, preferably if she was thrown in jail.
After he had finished setting up his own booth, he waited outside. As the light got dimmer and the owner of the next booth over was still absent, he couldn’t help himself, even his lips were curved upward when he was smoking.
“What are you doing here?” asked Bao Zhen, his wife, as she brought out the fried rice order for a customer and noticed her husband wandering around outside doing nothing.
She was a little peeved by that. She walked over, smacked him, and said, “Go take care of the customers!”
Zheng Zhi gestured to the booth next door with his lips and asked, “Is she out of business?”
“I don’t think so.” Bao Zhen has her doubts. “Her business was flourishing. Why would she close up shop?”
“She must have added illegal stuff in their food. I hope she’s out of business!” Zheng Zhi snickered. When he saw a few more people walking over, he tossed his cigarette butt on the floor and stomped it out. Right when he was about to greet them, he saw them walking toward the booth next to him.
“She’s out of business.” He said in a loud voice, thinking that he might be able to get them to visit his booth instead. That’s when he was Cheng Huan, coming over here on her tricycle.
His wish failing to come true, Zheng Zhi widened his eyes. Seeing that there was no way now that he could steal the customers over to his place, he cussed to himself, spit on the ground, gave Cheng Huan a stare, and turned to shout at Bao Zhen, “What the heck are you looking at? Go back to work already!”
Chen Nian, on the other hand, had just arrived at the other shop, sat down, and placed an order for hot noodles with sesame paste when his good friend’s call came in.
“Hey, didn’t you say you were going to do an episode on the BBQ place? How did it go? If you haven’t done that yet, you want to join me there today?” Chen Nian’s friend couldn’t forget about Cheng Huan’s BBQ since the last time he was there. He had time today, so he had asked Chen Nian to join him.
After all, BBQ would taste so much better with friends.
Chen Nian, while mixing up his noodles, said, “I went there, but I didn’t film it.”
“Why not?” asked his friend.
Chen Nian sighed and said, “I went there two days in a row, but it was closed. Someone told me she’s out of business.”
He made a “tsk” sound at his friend and asked, “You sure their BBQ was as good as you have said?”
“Of course! Why would I lie to you?!” His friend couldn’t handle his taste in food being questioned. He shouted first then asked again, “Are you sure she went out of business?”
“Yes. I just left there. I’m eating at Donghuan Road. Do you want to come and join me?” Chen Nian took a bite of the noodles and felt that it was quite good. “The hot noodles with sesame paste is quite good here.”
“Nah. I am going to go and check it out.” His friend had been pining about the BBQ for a few days now and couldn’t accept the fact that he would never be able to taste it again.
“I’ll go take a quick look. Maybe they only swapped out the front.”
