Chapter 22 - How Come I Don’t Have a Daddy? (3)
There was not much the driver could do now that Cheng Huan refused to play along. All that was left inside the cabin was XingXing’s nonstop questioning and Cheng Huan’s mild replies, as though she’d never run out of patience.
XingXing was just a child after all. He started to get sleep after the initial excitement. They were only halfway there when he fell asleep leaning up against Cheng Huan.
After they have arrived at their new place, Cheng Huan placed Chi Cheng onto the couch, paid the mover, and started unboxing their stuff.
They didn’t bring too much with them. Just a few suitcases along with the furniture. Cheng Huan put their clothes away and placed the straw mat over the bed. XingXing woke up when she was just about to put away the kitchenware.
The little kiddo sat up on the couch and wasn’t completely awake up. His large and round eyes squinted into two slits. He lifted his head and looked for the shadow of his mom with the dim light in the room. After he had located her, he rolled over, stuck his butt up in the air, and climbed down from the couch.
“Mom.” XingXing called out to Cheng Huan sweetly as he ran over to where she was. He then wrapped his arms around her legs and rubbed his cheek against her clothes. After the series of actions, he had finally woken up completely and volunteered to help.
“Alright. Then hand mommy the bowls from inside the box. Careful not to drop them, okay?” She had read online in the past that family activities like this were good for enhancing the relationship within a family, so she didn’t turn down XingXing’s offer to help.
He handed over a bowl to Cheng Huan with his two stubby little arms and only let go of it after he had made sure that mom had gotten a grip on it. He then wiped his hands on his pants before he reached for the slightly larger bowl.
The mother and son duo worked together and the efficiency had gone down. XingXing wasn’t very strong and was tired after just a few bowls. But he was very prideful and wouldn’t admit to it even when he was tired.
After he had handed over the last ladle, XingXing finally let out a big sigh as though he had completed some awesome project. He was so excited that his little cheeks were flustered.
He only glued onto her after Cheng Huan had put away the last ladle and said coquettishly, “Mom, I am so tired.”
“You worked so hard, XingXing. Come over here. Let me rub your arms.” Cheng Huan kissed him on his little cheek, carried him to the couch, turned the TV on and switched to a kids’ channel, and started massaging his meaty arms.
The kids’ channel was airing a cartoon about Xiao Ming. In the story, Xiao Ming has mom, dad, and three good friends. The episode that XingXing was watching was about Xiao Ming going on a picnic with his mom and dad.
XingXing looked at the screen for a little bit, peeked at Cheng Huan, then turned back to the TV again. He had a straight face on him the entire time, as though he was thinking through the most serious problems.
Naturally, his actions didn’t escape Cheng Huan. By the fifth time he peeked at her, Cheng Huan looked up and asked, “What’s the matter, XingXing?”
“Mom.” XingXing climbed onto Cheng Huan and wrapped his arms around her neck. He reached his little head over and whispered into her ear, “Mommy, how come I don’t have a daddy?”
