Chapter 21 -  I want to be a brick and go where I'm needed (1)

Liu Hulan's bob hairstyle hadn't been improved yet. Su Yu only had to give the skilled barber some minor guidance before he figured out how she wanted her hair cut. Once he was done, she could more or less see the fashion fad of later generations in her cut hair.

The skilled barber looked at Su Yu's appearance in the mirror. After studying it carefully, he felt that this hairstyle was more energetic.

He felt that he was on his way to comprehending something new and decided he would study this hairstyle. He would strive to have every female comrade with long braids also have this haircut. Why did female comrades want to grow long hair? In the time they spent on their hair, they might as well work more.

"Comrade, what do you think?" The skilled barber asked with confidence.

"Looks good." It looked good from every angle. Su Yu stroked her hair with satisfaction. This face was pretty good. It only took a little bit of dressing up to look more energetic. Once her health was better, she would at least be in the upper-middle level in beauty. "Sir, your skill is too good. When I came in, I didn't look like much. When I go out, the percentage of turned heads will definitely be 100%"

"What does the percentage of turned heads mean?" The skilled barber asked with a smoking pipe in his mouth.

Su Yu said, "It means when 100 people pass by me, they'll all turn their heads to take a second look. You must have been cutting hair for a long time to be so skillful. This is Comrade Liu's hairstyle, but the way you cut it is different and special."

The skilled barber smiled so widely that his eyes closed. "Isn't that so? Mine is an ancestral craft. My ancestors have been cutting hair for generations. I won't charge for your haircut today. Remember to come back here to get your haircut when your hair grows out. Don't let someone else cut your hair and ruin it." Cutting hair wasn't like selling a product. He could make the decision to not charge money.

"Then I'll hand my head over to you from now on. No one else can even think about touching my hair with scissors." Su Yu said with a serious face.

The skilled barber heartily laughed again.

After leaving the barber shop, Su Yu felt her head was a lot lighter. She had less hair, but the money in her pocket was still the same. She was very satisfied.

In this time period, if she could save money, she should. The original owner hadn't left behind any family wealth. Even if she didn't have to raise the original owner's siblings the same way she did, supporting herself was also a problem.

She hadn't expected that the current comrades were so simple. She had been prepared to haggle the price and didn't expect he would wave the bill entirely.

When she arrived at the factory, it was almost noon. Su Yu didn't come here to work, but to thank the comrades of the trade union, especially Comrade Yan Xiaofang. In addition, she also wanted to thank the director of her workshop as well as the people that helped her.

She hadn't been idle during her short stay in the hospital. She had borrowed pencil and paper from a nurse and wrote a voluminous thank you letter. She thanked everyone in the factory in her letter, including the middle-aged guard.  In addition, she expressed that due to the care she received from the work unit during this difficult time, she was greatly inspired to be a labor activist in the factory. She would contribute all of her strength to the factory.

In order to raise the level of her thank you letter, she specially went out of her way to look for doctors to borrow documents, books, newspapers, etc that showcased advance thinking of the times. She quoted various classical quotes and inspirational words from those texts in her thank you letter.

For a person that often had to make speeches, writing a manuscript meant to fool people was  child's play.

There weren't many people in the trade union office, only two union officers and two committee members. The trade union's Chairperson Sun wasn't here. As soon as Su Yu entered, she saw Yan Xiaofang, who was immersed in writing a manuscript.

Su Yu smiled and knocked on the union office's door.

Everyone looked towards the source of the sound.

Su Yu said with a smile, "Comrades, hello. I'm Su Yu from the production department. I was hospitalized two days ago and left the hospital today. I came here to thank the  comrades from the trade union for their great help and care."

“Comrade Su Yu, why did you leave the hospital so soon?" Yan Xiaofang looked at her in surprise. She had been planning on visiting Su Yu in the hospital after work.

Su Yu said in a slightly excited voice, "My body can still hold on. How can I delay? I only thought about leaving the hospital as soon as possible to come to work. I came out of this hospital this morning, I'll formally go back to work this afternoon."

"That I was able to get better so quickly, it's all thanks to everyone in the factory, especially the care from the comrades in the trade union. I… I'm so grateful, but I don't know what to say. I can only write a thank you letter to express the gratitude in my heart."
