Chapter 138 - Are you here to steal loquats too? (3)
Such big loquats.
A tree full of ripe fruit. So big and plump. It was sure to be sour and sweet. And no one had picked any.
The tree wasn't tall either. Some of the branches were low enough that she could reach the fruit on them.
Anyways, the house was deserted. There probably wasn't anyone taking care of this fruit.
Bei Nuan stood on her tiptoes, quickly grabbed two loquats, and turned to leave.
A figure suddenly flitted out from the courtyard.
Bei Nuan almost jumped out of her skin.
"What are you doing?"
Oh. It was Lu Xingchi.
Finally, she had found him. She let out a long sigh of relief.
Bei Nuan answered, "Something happened in Yao Town. I was looking for you."
"And you ended up here?" His beautiful brow furrowed. He looked at the loquats in Bei Nuan's hands and immediately understood. "You're actually here to steal other people's loquats, right?"
"Steal?" Bei Nuan quietly quibbled, "This is house is abandoned. That means this tree shouldn't have an owner, right?"
"Glutton, beware of getting food poisoning with your careless eating habits." Lu Xingchi was a bit speechless.
Lu Xingchi asked Bei Nuan, "Where did you go? I walked around town and didn't see you."
"I went to that Xie guy's house at the top of the mountain to play with his cat. His cat is so cute," Bei Nuan said.
Lu Xingchi frowned. "That guy is very strange. Stay away from him."
Bei Nuan nodded and thought; if it wasn't for Dahua's matter, she didn't want to get too close to him either. But, she didn't have any other choices. Little Three had tossed a cat's name onto the list.
"What about you? Why are you here? Are you here to steal loquats too?" Bei Nuan asked Lu Xingchi.
"You think I'm you?" Lu Xingchi was speechless. "I've been looking for you everywhere.
Lu Xingchi's train of thought was quite unique to have gone looking for her in someone's abandoned courtyard.
Bei Nuan glanced at the dilapidated house. "Why would I go to such a place?"
Lu Xingchi answered, "Didn't I find you here?"
Alright, Bei Nuan couldn't argue with that.
This dilapidated courtyard should be the place where the guy was hiding in the cellar. Now that she had found Lu Xingchi and the place, she just had to lead him inside, find the guy in the cellar, bring the guy to the townspeople, and she was set.
"Did something happen to Yao Town?" Lu Xingchi asked Bei Nuan.
"They're having a meeting at the top of the mountain. It's about -" Bei Nuan suddenly broke off and exclaimed "Hey, what's that?!" and ran into the courtyard.
With Boss Lu around, Bei Nuan wouldn't be scared even if there was a military unit in the cellar.
"What is it?" Lu Xingchi followed her.
The courtyard had been unoccupied for a long time, and the overgrown weeds had taken over. Bei Nuan crouched down at a plant that was over a foot tall. There were green orbs the size of walnuts hanging from the plants.
Bei Nuan poked at the plant. "Umm… could these be cherry tomatoes?"
Lu Xingchi crouched down to examine, "I think so. It's still green, not yet mature."
Bei Nuan looked around the yard and discovered something else. She ran over. "What about this? Is this a sunflower that's not mature yet?"
Lu Xingchi followed her to look. "That's right."
Bei Nuan took a few more steps forward. This time, she didn't study anymore plants. "What about this? Is this a hole dug by an animal? A rabbit hole?"
She walked to a pile of broken bamboo baskets and moved them away, which revealed a broken cover made from bamboo slats.
Lu Xingchi followed over. "It's not a hole dug by animals. A rabbit hole isn't that big. This a cellar used to store sweet potatoes. Every household has one."
Big Boss Lu knew everything.
"Oh, a cellar." Bei Nuan took half a step back towards Lu Xingchi before kicking open the broken wooden cover with the front of her shoe.
The cellar wasn't deep. It was a vase-like pit that sloped downwards. Even though it was a bit dark, she could see that it was empty.
The guy was gone.
Bei Nuan quickly tried to think where the guy had gone.
This was where the townspeople had found the guy in the original novel. Had the plot gone off course again? That would be problematic.
According to the timing in the novel, that person would soon mutate. And once that happened, there was the risk of him rapidly spreading the zombie virus. Not only would Xiao Ji's warm-hearted family suffer, everyone in the town would suffer a calamity.
Bei Nuan panicked. Zombies were harmless to Du Ruo, so he was fine, but she didn't know where Jiang Fei and Tang Tang had gone.
