Title: A Fake Holy Mother in the Zombie Apocalypse
Translator: Little Bamboo Spirit
Chapter 45 - Why did his words sound so ambiguous? (2)
This supermarket had three floors and covered a lot of land. Its large size was probably due to the cheap cost of land in the outer city.
Although the outermost glass doors had been locked, after the baptism of the apocalypse, they had been broken a long time ago. There was no difference between a locked door and an unlocked door. There was a group of zombies wandering in and out. However, there were metal shutter doors inside the supermarket that were tightly closed.
They quietly walked around the perimeter of the supermarket and arrived at the back door. The back entrance, where goods were unloaded, also had a metal shutter door.
Lu Xingchi asked Bei Nuan for a crowbar and pried at the corner of the metal shutter door. Under his hands, the metal shutter door was as soft as noodles. He was actually able to pry open a large opening.
When Lu Xingchi went inside, there was a cacophony of noises, but this quickly turned into silence. A horde of zombies had been gathered here. Most of them were wearing supermarket uniforms and some people were dressed in casual clothing. And now, they all had nails through their heads.
Lu Xingchi easily opened the metal shutter door from the inside and led everyone into the warehouse that was overflowing with supplies.
Amongst the mountain-like stacks of boxes, they chose and picked.
When Jiang Fei saw Bei Nuan pointing her finger at a box and the box disappearing into thin air, his reaction was much calmer than Du Ruo's first time seeing it. He looked away without asking any questions.
Their goal was primarily to find food and daily necessities. After they were busy for a while, a lot was added to Bei Nuan's pocket space.
Bei Nuan climbed up and down the stacks of boxes, wholeheartedly looking for snacks. A box of hazelnut chocolate here, two boxes of shredded dried squid there. Right after she had added a box of chicken feet with pickled vegetables into her space, she was scooped out of the pile of boxes.
"Can snacks be eaten as meals?" Lu Xingchi's expression was stern. He carried her over to the shelves of rice like she was a small chicken and stayed there to supervise her as she put away bag after bag of rice.
Each bag of rice was 20 kilograms and Bei Nuan put away over 200 bags of it. It was only then that Lu Xingchi was satisfied. He seemed to be worried that she would starve to death in the house. This amount of rice would be enough to eat daily for 20 to 30 years for three people, much less Bei Nuan alone.
After putting away a lot of flour and cooking oil, Bei Nuan refused to take anymore.
"Enough?" Lu Xingchi asked.
"Enough." Bei Nuan said, "No need to take anymore. Other people might come here looking for supplies. Let's leave the rest for other people." To her satisfaction, her Holy Mother value increased by a bit following those words.
Bei Nuan's take on this issue was very different from Lu Xingchi. There was no need to stock up on food at all. She didn't plan on staying behind in the small house, that would be tantamount to suicide. If her Holy Mother value didn't increase enough by the end of the novel, she would be sent back to her world where she would be squashed by the large truck.
She had to follow him. Increasing her Holy Mother value was her first priority.
Now that there was enough supplies, the male lead might run away as soon as they left the supermarket. As Bei Nuan turned over the box in her hand, she desperately tried to think of an excuse to continue following him.
Du Ruo was idly walking around and noticed a locked door behind the shelves.
"It probably leads to the supermarket," Lu Xingchi said.
Du Ruo suggested, "Want to go take a stroll around the supermarket?"
Take a stroll now? What a carefree person. There might be a horde of zombies there. However, Bei Nuan would take any excuse to delay, so she quickly seconded his proposal. "Let's go shopping in the supermarket?"
Surprisingly, Lu Xingchi wasn't in a rush to leave. He didn't object and walked over to the door. Du Ruo hadn't been able to open the door, but the door surprisingly opened with a creak when Lu Xingchi turned the doorknob.
The door really did open into the supermarket.
Du Ruo and Jiang Fei were walking in front with Du Ruo supporting Jiang Fei. Lu Xingchi and Bei Nuan were lagging behind them by several steps. Taking advantage that it was only the two of them, Bei Nuan continued to try to change Lu Xingchi's mind.
"Lu Xingchi, you're really not going to bring me along?" Bei Nuan asked him. "Even if you guys find enough food and daily necessities to last me for a few years, what will happen after that? You made the defenses on that house so strong. I might really be able to survive for a long time."
Lu Xingchi was silent for a while before saying, "I'll finish my business as quickly as possible. If I'm still alive after that, I'll come find you."
Huh? What did he mean by that?
Bei Nuan forgot to keep walking and stared at him. Why did his words sound so ambiguous?
Lu Xingchi's expression didn't change. He looked at Bei Nuan with narrowed eyes. "I mean, it's too chaotic outside. You're a girl. It's not convenient to bring you along. Stay in Jiangcheng for now. When the situation stabilizes, I'll come back for you and bring you to a safe place." His tone was calm. It didn't seem like he was lying to trick her.
Bei Nuan inexplicably felt a bit happy. As it turned out, he wasn't planning on ditching her.
Lu Xingchi was sharp and could notice her happiness. He looked away from her face.
"Come on. If we don't catch up to them, those two will be eaten by zombies," he said this quietly and his tone was gentle.
He was right about that. Du Ruo and Jiang Fei had already walked far ahead of them. Du Ruo was looking left and right and didn't notice at all that they weren't following them.
Lu Xingchi was definitely a crow. He had a crow's mouth that said unlucky events, and those events usually came true.
Several figures suddenly appeared around the corner.
Lu Xingchi immediately picked up his crossbow, but he didn't shoot. Those figures moved normally and had normal vision. They were obviously humans and not zombies. And, they could talk too.
"Freeze! Hands up!" The leader of the group yelled. He was holding a gun and pointing it at them.
